FALL MINI SESSION
FALL MINI SESSION
Say Yes to the Dress
Dresses and skirts tend to look the most stunning on camera because they really flatter the female body! For family sessions in general and especially if you have little kids, I recommend avoiding shorter dresses or skirts and opting for something full length. A long dress or maxi skirt will allow you to move and bend without having to worrying about staying covered!
Accessories:
Pairing accessories with your outfit can really help bring some extra dimension to your images, so I recommend choosing one or two that don’t compete for attention when paired together. For example, if you go with bolder earnings, you might want to choose a more delicate necklace, and vice versa.
Hair and Makeup Tips:
Whether you do it yourself or have it done professionally, there are a few things that can make a huge difference in how your makeup translates on camera.
1. More is more: For whatever reason, makeup doesn’t show up very well in pictures. Even if you are wanting a very natural look, you are going to need to apply more than usual, especially for your eyes.
2. False Lashes: Your eyes are going to be a prime focal point in your pictures, and fake lashes add a beautiful pop and give your images a dramatic, elegant feel. It’s a simple detail, something you can easily do yourself, and it makes SUCH a difference!
3. Lip Color: Even if you aren’t usually a lipstick kind of gal, adding a little bit of color, even a super neutral tone, will help finish your look. It doesn’t need to be bold or dramatic. Even just a little something can make a world of difference!
Skip the Spray Tan!
Although it might seem counter-intuitive, I recommend that you do not get a spray tan before your session (even a few days prior) because it tends to photograph orange even when it’s applied subtly and by a professional. Your actual skin tone will photograph most beautifully.
Tops & Bottoms
You can’t go wrong with a dress shirt, slacks and even a blazer if you’re feeling fancy! Long sleeves are more flattering than short sleeves on men, so I’d recommend steering clear of t-shirts or polos, and instead opting for a long-sleeve button-down. The other benefit to long sleeves is we can roll the sleeves up for a slightly more casual look, which gives you two looks with one shirt.
Long pants with closed-toed shoes is the most sophisticated and masculine look for a man. It’s best to leave the shorts and sandals at home. Dress pants, colored chinos, or nice dark-washed jeans work best. And I have found that brown leather dress shoes complement almost every look.
When selecting an outfit for photos, the most important part isn’t the price. It’s the fit. For men, it’s important to have a nice fitting shirt (but not too tight), and pants that are the correct length and don’t have too many breaks. Bunched up fabric stacked on top of a man’s shoes makes him look physically shorter than he really is.
Solid colors and subtle patterns will help keep the attention where it belongs, whereas bold print tend to distract the eye, so steer away from those as well as anything with an obvious logo.
